Just in advance: this review was made possible by MyTrendyPhone.nl. Every now and then I also review gadgets that are not as exciting as the latest smartphone. This time a desk holder for your iPad. Somewhat brandless, although it says ‘Charger by OTB’. Nevertheless, I wanted to try such a thing.
I am rather for convenience. Bringing cables to charge devices, or having those cables lying around all over the house, just isn’t that practical. Once with a Motorola device (A1000) I got a desk charger and that was very handy. Since then I have never had a device with desk charger again. Only when I had an iPad did that desire for a desk charger arise again. Such an iPad is fairly large and lying down, the device takes up quite a bit of space. So when I got the chance to try this Apple iPad USB desktop holder, I immediately said yes.
Listen to music
The iPad is now neatly upright on my desk. The dock has a 3.5mm jack audio output, so I can connect the iPad to my Logitech speakers, with subwoofer, so that I can always easily access my music. Well, it is not that unique, and there are also more advanced solutions, but they cost more money ;-). The iPad hangs directly on your PC with the USB cable. You can then sync and charge it. If you want it to charge faster, plug the USB cable into the included adapter. The iPad will be full again in about 2 hours.
The only thing that is a bit unfortunate is the blue LED indicator light. Yes, handy to see if the power is still on, but it comes across as very cheap. It seems like a bit of a Chinese stuff again. Nevertheless, I think it is a handy thing, so for now my iPad will be on my desk and I will listen to my music that way. Until a new, better gadget comes along ;-).
Well, I have to make a conclusion, so: I give the dock a 7 . It is not a super special gadget (a bit thirteen in a dozen), but very handy and space-saving. And the light is a flaw.
